Phylos
Privacy Policy
Last updated September 9, 2026. This policy covers the Phylos app, phylos.app, and support communications. Contact support@phylos.app with questions or privacy requests.
Controller and contact
Phylos is operated by Peyton Jensen in Utah, United States, who is the controller of personal information processed by Phylos. Email support@phylos.app to contact the controller.
Information you provide
We process your account email, authentication information, and profile details, such as your username, avatar, biography, and favorite creators. Supabase handles authentication. Where available, Apple or Google sign-in supplies the account information you authorize that provider to share.
We store content you create or save, including posts, comments, collections, journal entries, quiz responses and results, and your social connections. We also process call and debate messages, transcripts, session history, usage records, and purchase entitlements. Your writing and philosophical responses may reveal personal beliefs; choose carefully what you include.
Public profiles and private writing
Your public profile, posts, comments, and social information can be visible to other users. Collection visibility follows your sharing settings. Journal entries are private by default; choosing to post an entry makes it visible on your profile. You can change its publication status in the Journal.
People who can view shared content may copy or share it. Changing visibility or deleting content cannot remove copies someone else has already made.
Personalization and app operation
The For You feed uses interactions such as views, reading time, skips, revisits, and saves to personalize recommendations. We process these signals, preferences, daily activity, and usage counters to provide the app, remember your choices, apply plan limits, and protect against abuse.
Diagnostic information can include device and app version, timestamps, errors, logs, navigation events, and performance traces. We use Sentry for crash and performance monitoring. This information helps us troubleshoot and improve the app.
Voice, AI, and service providers
Voice features require microphone permission. During a call, audio you submit is streamed through our server to Cartesia for transcription. Conversation text and relevant context are processed by DeepSeek to generate responses. Cartesia converts replies to speech. Phylos stores text-based session information and transcripts; the call server processes microphone audio in memory rather than saving a recording.
AI processing occurs when you use the relevant feature. Providers may retain inputs, outputs, and related information under their applicable terms and policies, including for security and service improvement. We do not promise zero retention or that every provider excludes content from model improvement. See Cartesia’s privacy policy and DeepSeek’s privacy policy.
Text you submit to public surfaces (such as post captions and usernames) is screened by OpenAI’s moderation service before it is saved, so that hateful or abusive content is refused at the point of writing. OpenAI receives only that text. See OpenAI’s privacy policy.
Supabase provides authentication, database storage, and app services. Fly.io hosts the voice server; Vercel hosts the website. RevenueCat helps verify purchases made through Apple or Google, and Resend handles certain account emails. Mapbox supplies map services. These providers receive information needed to deliver their services.
Information can be processed outside your country. DeepSeek states that it processes and stores personal information in China. Other providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Their retention and international processing practices are governed by the applicable service agreements and privacy policies.
Permissions, maps, and notifications
If you choose the map’s nearby feature, the app requests foreground location access and uses your location to show nearby places. Map services can receive network and map-view information when you use them. You can decline location access and still browse the map.
You can allow reminders and notifications, and manage these permissions in your device settings. Microphone, location, and notification permissions can be revoked there at any time.
Purchases and support
Apple or Google processes in-app payments. RevenueCat and our servers receive transaction identifiers, subscription status, and usage or credit information so we can provide paid features. Phylos does not receive your full payment-card details.
When you email support, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments you send. We use these to respond, investigate problems, and manage your request. The website’s support form prepares a draft in your email app; its contents are not submitted to a Phylos web server.
The website and local storage
The marketing website stores your light or dark theme preference in your browser. It does not use advertising pixels or an analytics SDK. Our hosting provider can process ordinary request information, such as IP addresses, URLs, and browser details, to deliver and secure the site.
The app also keeps local settings, cached content, and some conversation history on your device. Removing local history does not necessarily remove server-side session records.
Retention, deletion, and your choices
Account content remains available while your account is active unless you delete it. You can delete supported content in the app and request account deletion from Profile, Settings, Delete account. If you cannot access your account, contact support. Deletion removes the account and associated application records; backups, provider records, and information needed for legal, security, or dispute purposes may remain for the applicable retention period.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a data-protection authority. Email support@phylos.app to make a request. We may verify account ownership before responding.
We use information to provide the services you request, maintain security, respond to support requests, and meet legal obligations. Where applicable law requires consent for a use, you can withdraw that consent, although the related feature may then be unavailable.
Sharing, safety, and changes
We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising. We may disclose information to comply with legal obligations, protect users and the service, or handle a business transfer subject to applicable privacy protections. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Phylos is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and address it.
We will update this page when our practices change and provide additional notice where required. You can also read our Terms of Service.
